From April 1, 2019 the Skills Centre will no longer be providing WorkBC Employment Program of BC services to the community, a service that our organization has been providing in the GreaterTrail Area for more than 20 years.

Although these services will be provided by another community based non-profit organization, we will be continuing to work with our EPBC clients until they are formally transitioned to the new service provider.

In pursuit of our vision of helping to build an inclusive, supportive, and prosperous community, the Skills Centre has collaborated with numerous, for-profit and non-profit organizations, educational institutions and bodies, local industries, businesses, funding bodies, financial institutions, Indigenous organizations, leaders and community champions of all kinds.

The Skills Centre will continue to operate our very popular job board and focus on key areas of our business including:

Addressing Workplace Diversity: The Skills Centre has built considerable expertise in addressing workplace diversity, building employer relationships and workplace knowledge. This is especially evident in developing programs to eliminate barriers to women developing careers in the non-traditional and industrial sectors. We have a number of initiatives currently in development, although as yet unfunded.

Extended Hour Child Care: The Skills Centre has been working to develop a solution to critical child care shortages in the region that are affecting employers’ ability to recruit and retain younger workers – especially women

– in the area. Family supports are not always available for shift and casual workers who make up a significant portion of the region’s workforce.

Poverty Reduction, Inclusion and Workforce Development: The Skills Centre has built a poverty reduction program for the Lower Columbia which reflects and reinforces the Provincial governments’ program and priorities for poverty reduction. Our goal is to strengthen the social fabric of the community and offer opportunities for multi- barriered individuals to enter the workforce.

To our program partners, supporters, friends, and especially to those who have come to us for support and assistance in the past, we thank you. We will continue to serve you, local and regional employers, and our community to build a vibrant, inclusive, diverse, and skilled workforce.
