Karma comes a-calling for alleged local thief

On Jan.21, at 8:30 a.m. Trail RCMP received a report that a 25-year-old Trail man had allegedly taken a vehicle without permission from the business of his former employer near Trail, according to Trail RCMP top cop Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
“The business owner was able to track the vehicle using the vehicle’s internal GPS system,” Wicentowich said. “The owner located the man and the vehicle on Highway 3B, near Rossland, BC, and then contacted the Trail RCMP. A frontline RCMP officer attended the reported location and arrested the 25-year-old Trail man.
“Trail RCMP is recommending Crown Counsel pursue one count of Take Vehicle without Consent contrary to Section 335(1) of the Criminal Code against the 25-year-old Trail man.”
On the same day, at 3:39 p.m. Trail RCMP received information from a security officer that he observed a 23-year-old Castlegar man break into a vehicle and steal a backpack in the 1000 block of Aldridge Avenue in Trail.
“A frontline Trail RCMP officer conducted patrols, located the Castlegar man, and arrested him,” Wicentowich said. “Further investigation revealed that the alleged victim was the 25-year-old Trail man who had taken the vehicle without consent earlier that day (2022-274). Trail RCMP informed the 25-year-old man about the incident while he was still in police custody. The 25-year-old Trail man ultimately declined to pursue charges in this incident.”
The 23-year-old Castlegar man was released without further incident.
It’s rare that karma works this fast in real life, Wicentowich said.
