Piano and percussion merge in a 6-handed musical marvel at The Bailey Theatre
On Tuesday, March 15 Percussiano 3 brings together the two hands of percussionist Rod Thomas Squance and the four hands of Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann to perform at the Bailey Theatre in the last Performing Arts Trail show this season.
With their dazzling array of instruments and brilliant display of virtuosity, Percussiano3 deliver all of the excitement of a percussion ensemble without losing the classical touch of a traditional concert, presenting great masterpieces and unique transcriptions for percussion and piano. Their repertoire spans across musical styles and periods and includes works by composers like Bach, Schubert, Ravel, Chabrier, Copland, Rachmaninoff, Piazzolla, Brubeck, Saint Saëns as well as their own original compositions.
The Bergmanns are recipients of many international awards and have performed internationally for over two decades. The duo performed with the International Piano Quartet (as founding members) and recorded Stravinsky’s “Les Noces”, directed by Robert Craft, at Abbey Road Studios in London, England.
Percussionist Rod Thomas Squance has dazzled audiences worldwide. Rod has performed with many stellar artists including Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project; Paquito de Rivera, clarinetist; Dong-Won Kim, Korean traditional percussionist; Kojiro Umezaki, erhuist Yu Hongmei (shakuhachi players), and Prafulla Athalye, Sandeep Das and Abbas Janmohammed (tabla players).
