Summer camp leaders needed for Camp Cawabunga & Adventure Camp to run this summer
The City of Trail’s Parks & Recreation Department is still seeking fun and energetic camp leaders for Camp Cawabunga and Summer Adventure Camp, both scheduled to run from July 4 to August 26. The camps offer theme weeks packed full of adventure, games, sports, arts, crafts, and a whole lot of fun. The camp leader position is a great opportunity for those looking to improve their skills in leadership and program planning in a fun and fulfilling environment.
“Like many places of employment, recruitment is a significant challenge at this time. To date, we have received one application for the leader position,” said Trisha Davison, Director of Parks & Recreation. “In order for the camps to run at the same capacity as previous years, we need at least 4 full-time leaders and 2 or 3 reserve leaders to accommodate the number of kids who attend the camps.”
Trail Parks & Recreation has postponed the camp registration date until sufficient leaders have been recruited.
“If we don’t get a sufficient number of applications for people with the qualifications to fill the leader spots, we will need to consider scaling the camps back or cancelling them altogether,” said Davison. “We’d hate to see that happen as we know these camps are very important to kids and relied upon by the families of our community.”
Camp leaders will start with program planning on June 20 and then will launch the camps on July 4. There is also an opportunity for the leaders to work at the Canada Day celebration event on July 1 for 4 hours.
Camp leader pay is $17.50 – $18.00/hourly. Interested applicants should possess a CPR or a First Aid certification, have some previous experience working with children, and be willing to undergo a criminal record check. A full description is available at www.trail.ca/jobs and applications and cover letters can be sent directly to the Recreation Coordinator by email.
“If you know of a suitable student looking for summer work, please share this information with them,” said Davison. “We want 2022 to be a great summer for everyone.”
