Cops for Kids ride nets more than $200,000
The totals are in and the 2012 Cops for Kids Ride generated an amazing $215,000 for for local children in crisis.
We have our generous sponsors, media and dedicated riders to thank for the success of this year’s ride, said Rider and President Gail Harrison.
We have formed solid partnerships in our communities which allow us to continue funding the requests to assist children in crisis. Our need continues to grow as we receive more and more applications for assistance each year.
“We wouldn’t be able to continue helping the children in crisis if it weren’t for the strength of the communities that we serve. Most of all, we cannot thank our own families for the support that they show each year as we ride.
The ride concluded September 16 in Kelowna.
Tired but smiling, the riders were lead into town by Kelowna RCMP and the Blue’s Brothers to an eagerly awaiting group of family, friends and sponsors as well as a number of Ambassador families of children that have benefited from the assistance of Cops for Kids.
Twenty-one riders and six support member from local RCMP detachments and law enforcement agencies pedalled across South Eastern BC as a part of the annual fundraiser to raise money for children in medical, physical or traumatic crisis.
This journey took the team over steep elevation changes such as the Anarchist Mountain and the Blueberry Paulson, and served up both some inclement weather and a few hot riding days, but all in all it was a very successful and rewarding ride.
Money raised from this event will fund requests for medical travel, mobility & learning aids for children from the South East District of British Columbia. Cops for Kids have processed over 99 applications for assistance so far this year, and continue to see a need for continued support for children in crisis throughout the region.
Ride Captain Julio Krenz commends the team on their hard work.
Our team this year was filled with champions from each community, claims Krenz.
These people not only work hard keeping our communities safe on a day-to-day basis, but they are also champion ambassadors for the cause in their own communities.
