Although the Surrey RCMP has been operating its own Facebook and Twitter accounts for the past few months, the detachment is pleased to announce our official venture into the world of social media.

Starting in early April, the Surrey RCMP will be rolling out a series of short-run campaigns to increase our presence on social media and better connect with the community. This will include various tweet-a-thons from RCMP personnel as well as specialized updates and information from various units and sections.

“For us to be as open and transparent as possible we need to keep up with emerging technologies,” says Surrey RCMP C/Supt. Bill Fordy. “The power of social media is making it possible for us to connect directly with the people we serve and provide them with meaningful, accurate and real-time information when and how they want it.”

On April 4, the Surrey RCMP will be turning over its Twitter account to a familiar face. Sergeant Dale Carr, Surrey RCMP ‘C’ Watch Patrol Supervisor, will be tweeting regular updates from his mobile device during his shift as he attends calls for service from the public in the City Centre area of the city.

“This is an exciting venture for me and for the detachment,” says Carr. “I am looking forward to giving people an idea about what a typical day of policing in the city of Surrey is all about and keeping the community informed.”
