It was more than just a loud car crash on the television that startled a Nelson family recently (Sunday, March 24) said Nelson Police Sargent Paul Bayes.

The family experienced a sudden jolt when a car crashed into the house at approximately 8:30 p.m.

During the investigation the homeowner found a car resting against the house, a trail of damage behind and an intoxicated 18-year-old male.

The Nelson Police arrived and took the driver into custody after officers immediately determined the male was under the influence of alcohol.

The male became quite belligerent to the officers but was quickly transported to NPD cells.

He was released the following morning and is facing charges of impaired driving and driving with more than 80Mg% alcohol in his system.

Police said it is very lucky that no one inside the home, a pedestrian walking by or the driver was injured.

The male is scheduled to appear in Nelson courts June 11 to answer to the charges.

Cold concrete not the best sleeping environment

Wednesday (April 3) morning police were called to the lower parking lot of Kootenay Lake Hospital to find a 23-year-old man lying on the ground.

The man, intoxicated, had been lying on the cold concrete for approximately five hours.

He told police he had a lot to deal with in his life and that was the spot where he wanted to be.

The temperature Wednesday morning was about 4 C.

The man, shivering from the cold, refused to leave and was arrested for public intoxication.

He was lodged into cells until sober and released without charges.

7-11 staffer gets roughed up after asking for ID

On Sunday (March 31) a 7-11 staff member found a patron less than hospitable after asking the man for ID.

The incident happened at 8:25 p.m. when the attendant asked the man to produce identification to purchase a lighter.

The 22-year-old man became angry before grabbing the staffer by the shirt.

The man’s mother, pulled him away and they both left the store.

The Nelson Police were called and identified the male, known to them, using the store video.

The man was located at his home and arrested for assault.

He is scheduled to appear in Nelson Courts June 11 to answer to the charge and is forbidden to enter the 7-11 until that date.
