So what can you get these days for twenty-odd bucks these days — a dozen beers, perhaps? Maybe a handful of Big Whopper Combo Meals or even possibly a large pizza might fit the bill.

Forget the heartburn or the morning-after headache and head on down to the Capitol Theatre to take in perhaps the best deal on the planet for $22 — the live performance of the musical Cabaret, staring none other than Sydney Black as Sally Bowles.

Cabaret, based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood, is a 1966 Broadway production that became a hit and spawned a 1972 film as well as numerous subsequent theatre productions.

But it’s not just Bowles, err, Black, who steals this show.

There’s magnificent performance from Michael Graham, Lisa Backus, Mackenzie Hope . . . the Kit Kat Klub dancers and, of course, Emcee, Louis Butterfield.

Director Pat Henman has done an excellent job putting this musical together with the help of music director Rick Lingard.

Tickets for any one of the four shows — Thursday, Friday or Saturday (May 30 to June 1) at 8 p.m. or the matinee Saturday, June 1 at 2 p.m. — are available at the Capitol Theatre Box Office or online at www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca

There is also a special Capitol Theatre Fundraiser set for Friday (May 31) at 11 p.m. The audience is invited to dress up in their favourite Kit Kat Kostumes.

Cost is $22 for adults or $17 for students.

“I just think that Nelson and hopefully there’s just going to so entertained and walk away with more than just hearing music but also having a little bit of touched engaged and moved to what there are going to see . . .” director Pat Henman said prior to the weekend.

No doubt the audiences will be entertained.

What will they think walking away . . . well not doubt that will fall into one of those “priceless” columns.
