Castlegar man arrested for possession/trafficking
A Castlegar man will be facing charges after being arrested Saturday, according to RCMP Cpl Darryl Orr.
“On May 25 at 12:25 a.m., members of the Castlegar Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) arrested a 47-year-old male for Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act,” Orr said.
“The male was stopped in his vehicle by CRU members shortly after leaving a Castlegar residence. Approximately two grams of Cocaine and $440 in cash were seized during the suspect’s arrest.
The man will appear in Castlegar court in July.
Orr said the two most prevalent drugs in the Castlegar area are cocaine and marijuana, with smaller amounts of methamphetamine – but his team is working to reduce all drug traffic in the city.
“There’s been a dramatic increase in the number of drug arrests here since the CRU’s inception about three years ago,” he said. “The Castlegar and Trail Crime Reduction Units continue to aggressively pursue street level drug dealers. Anyone with any information about drug trafficking is urged to call the police at 250-365-7721 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.”
