Police recover stolen vehicle; Sailing Club assists boater on Kootenay Lake

Nelson Police is requesting public assistance in regards to the recovery of a stolen car Wednesday on Bealby Point Road north of the city limits.

NPD dispatchers received the initial report of a stolen vehicle from outside the woman’s residence Wednesday (July 10).

The owner had just moved back to Nelson and had parked the vehicle on the street in front of her residence the previous evening.

The female also reported the keys were missing but had advised a friend who believed to witness the vehicle in the Rosemont area during the night. 

Police searched the area where the vehicle was last seen before conducted inquiries, which led to the vehicle recovery on Bealby Point Road.

Several people were identified in the investigation and have been interviewed by investigators. 

To date the investigation continues and Nelson Police are asking anyone with information regarding the theft of the vehicle to come forward.

All is well that ends well on Kootenay Lake

A mariner in distress can thank the Nelson Sailing Club for coming to the rescue after suffering boat problems north of the Big Orange Bridge on Kootenay Lake.

The report came into to dispatchers on Thursday (July 11) that a boat was in distress.

Nelson Police quickly deployed its boat in order to investigate the report.

Once out on the lake, it was determined that the initial boat in distress had been assisted by the Nelson Sailing Club.

However, the Nelson Sailing Club zodiac required assistance after developing motor issues. 

NPD towed the NSC boat to the City wharf. 

Once at the wharf, it was determined that the NPD boat was in trouble due to debris caught in the jet intake. 

Nelson Sailing Club members assisted NPD officers in unclogging the jet intake.

NPD would like to thank the Nelson Sailing Club for rendering assistance to the initial boat in distress before helping officers with the police boat.
