Traffic flow on Highway 3A east of Castlegar was tied up Tuesday afternoon following a three-car accident less than a kilometer west of the Thrums Market, but only one person was sent to hospital, and without life-threatening injuries, according to RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew.

The accident happened around 4 p.m., when a woman heading toward Castlegar stopped to make a left turn off the highway into Thrums. Mathew said the driver behind her didn’t realize she had stopped in time to stop himself, so in an attempt to avoid an accident, he tried to go around her using the oncoming traffic lane.

His attempt was unsuccessful, and he clipped the back end of her car, which knocked him sideways into the oncoming lane, where another vehicle hit him.

The woman was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but her eight-year-old son and everyone else involved in the crash were released on scene.

The second driver, the one who tried to go around the stopped vehicle, was issued a violation ticket for crossing a double solid line.
