Police arrest 23-year-old Nelson man after pedestrian shot with C02 powered BB gun

The start of summer proved to be a busy weekend for Nelson Police as the department handled approximately 100 calls for service during the start of the Canada Day weekend.

The most critical call involved a pedestrian being shot by an unknown assailant riding in a vehicle Saturday (June 28).

Officers became involved in the file after the pedestrian flagged down a police cruiser, explaining to police he believed the firearm used in the drive-by shooting to be a C02 powered BB gun.

Police located a vehicle of the same a short time later with two males, a C02 BB gun, ammunition and C02 cartridges located inside.

A 23-year-old Nelson resident was arrested for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. 

The man was also charged with Mischief Under $5000 as the investigation led to locating a window shattered at a local business. 

The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be added with regard to other damage reported.

Witness watches crime occur, then calls police

Saturday (June 28) Nelson Police were called to a local motel where a patron had observed a male going through the saddlebag of a motorcycle belonging to another guest at the motel. 

The witness detained the male, and when police arrived, a 20-year-old male, not from the Nelson area, was arrested for Theft and Possession of Stolen Property. 

The man was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date set for (Tuesday) August 19.

All property stolen was recovered and returned to the owner of the motorcycle.

NPD investigates sexual assault following incident at Ward and Baker

Nelson Police are investigating a sexual assault complaint that occurred at the corner of Ward and Baker Streets near the Transit Bus Shelter (Thursday) June 26.

Nelson dispatch received the call at 7 p.m. of an intoxicated male drinking and harassing a young girl in a sexual manner. 

Nelson Police attended the area and spoke to the young girl and the intoxicated male. 

The 52-year-old male was arrested and charged with sexual assault and resisting arrest and was remanded to appear in court in Nelson Monday (June 30).
