Columbia Basin Culture Tour– August 9 & 10, 2014
Taking place August 9 & 10, 2014, 10 am – 5 pm, the Columbia Basin Culture Tour allows you to explore artists’ studios, museums, art galleries and heritage sites during this free, self-guided event. Travel to studios and archives that aren’t normally open, see demonstrations, new exhibitions and collections or meet people behind the scenes. To participate in the tour, simply grab a map, your Culture Tour Directory and go!
Rossland artist Tricia Rasku will be opening her working studio for the Culture Tour. At Tricia’s busy studio there will be demonstrations for those of you who wish to know about weaving, spinning, felting, and the benefits of handmade soap. Tricia explains “I enjoy the colour play of much of my work which is evident in the dyeing and colourful felt and woven pieces. I can quickly demonstrate spinning and felting or even weaving. I may be wrapping previously made soap or printing out information for future classes.”
In Trail, request a wheel demonstration at Pottery by Fran and you will have the opportunity to view and purchase a variety of Fran’s finished pottery as well as view pots in the various stages of creation, from newly thrown to the placement in the kiln.
Just outside Salmo you will find Joe Horvath’s Art Gallery. Joe would love to show you around his gallery and explain his techniques and share his passion for creating art. “I love the scenery of British Columbia and try to capture the beauty in my paintings” says Joe “I paint the awesomeness of the great trees and the vegetation of the forest found underfoot. My work also features wildlife, from the little squirrel to the largest moose and elk.”
In Salmo, joining the Culture Tour this year is Tia Reyden. Tia has been working with acrylics for a few years but has always been a pencil artist. Her preliminary sketches are an integral part of her finished product and so this tour provides a unique opportunity to witness all the stages of her creative process. Tia will be opening up her home to the public so art admirers may come and browse her collection. She will also be working at her easel throughout the weekend so if you’re curious about this emerging Salmo artist, please come on by.
