Not the way to ring in the New Year
A man rang in the New Year in Nelson Police cells after being arrested for a series of charges following an early morning accident on the first day of 2015.
Nelson Police became involved after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls about a fight
in the 100 Block Anderson Street at 3:10 a.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived they found two males fighting by a crashed vehicle, with one of the combatants fleeing the scene after seeing police.
Police quickly captured the man following a short chase, who was found to be highly intoxicated.
It was determined by police the other person fighting was a concerned citizen who noted the man driving dangerously and ultimately crashing his vehicle.
The man, who was fortunately not hurt in the scuffle, was attempting to detain the driver for police when he started fighting in order to escape.
The 19-year-old local man was held in NPD cells overnight until sober and will appear in Nelson Law Courts to answer to charges of impaired driving, hit and run, resisting arrest and escaping lawful custody.
Kelowna man found in possession of significant quantity of street drugs
Nelson Police was called to the 100 Block of Vernon Street Friday (January 2) at 10 pm. to assist a member of the RCMP with a man found wandering the roadway without any identification or shoes.
Police said the man appeared to be in a condition known as excited delirium, which can be fatal if not treated quickly.
Nelson Police members, EHS, and Nelson Fire raced to the scene along with an emergency Doctor.
The 33-year-old Kelowna male was transported to KLH and treated for what was found to be an accidental drug overdose.
His vehicle was found nearby and a significant quantity of street drugs was found inside.
The investigation is ongoing.
Boxing Day break-in items recovered
Nelson Police is asking people who may have had their vehicle broken on Boxing Day to contact the office at 250-354-3919.
Police arrested a man for breaching conditions of his probation (Friday) Decemer 26.
During the arrest police found numerous charger chords, cigarettes, children’s clothing and various small items typically left in vehicles on him.
Vehicles that had items stolen would likely have occurred in the area around the Nelson and District Rec Centre centre and possibly into Fairview.
