On Now -- Rossland Winter Carnival!

It has begun: Lots of fun, lots of activities, with good food and music.
In keeping with the historical nature of the event, started in 1898, the Rossland Museum has displays and activities beginning at noon on Thursday.
On Friday, after luge lessons and ski races at Red (if they haven’t been cancelled ), dine al fresco downtown with fare from food vendors, and visit the Olaus Ice Palace for music by the Good Ol’ Goats; — admission $10. Dress up to take part in the Winter Carnival Parade at 6:30. At 7:15 watch Porphyria, a fire show at Harry LeFevre Square.
On Saturday, don’t miss the Firemen’s Pancake Breakfast at the Fire Hall on 2nd Avenue — only $5. Watch the Sonny Samuelson Bobsled Race at 9:30, if you’re not bombing down Spokane in a creatively-crafted sled yourself.
Try out a Fat Bikeat Red Mountain for up to 45 minutes — donations to the Food Bank will be accepted. Watch “The Game” Rail Jam (Queen Street to Columbia). From 2:00 – 7:00 you can browse the Winter Market at the Miners Hall.
Sunday starts with luge races at Red, followed by a Fat Bike Race. Meanwhile, the artists among us can add interest to “Sculptathon” at Pioneer Park (1st and Spokane). The Rossland Beer Company wants people to dress up as Olaus Jeldness; the most convincing impersonation will win a growler of beer and a T-shirt.
