NPD report suspect nabbed after man robbed at gunpoint in Uphill area

A suspect is heading back to Nelson after being picked up in another community for a suspected robbing of a man at gunpoint in the Uphill region of the Heritage City Sunday night.

Police received a 9-1-1 call to dispatch at 11 p.m. (August 30) from a male reporting he had just been robbed at gunpoint.

The victim added the offenders were following him in a vehicle.

NPD officers quickly responded to the call and began the investigation.

Monday morning, police received call the suspect vehicle had been located in another community and the stolen property recovered.

“Possible suspects have been identified and the investigation is ongoing,” said Sergeant Paul Bayes of the Nelson Police Department in a media release.

Intoxicated man gets two trips to Nelson Police cells

A 53-year-old man kept Nelson Police occupied for parts of the weekend during two different calls to dispatch.

The go-around began at 6:30 p.m. Friday (August 28) when NPD was alerted that an intoxicated male was yelling and swearing at people at the Lakeside Soccer fields.

When members arrived they recognized the male.

“He was arrested for causing a disturbance and held until sober,” said Sgt. Bayes.

“The man was released with a court date the following morning with conditions to stay out of the park and not consume liquor.”

A few days later, (Monday, August 31) NPD received another complaint near the Lakeside Soccer Fields.

A bike had been stolen from the waterfront soccer fields.

“While NPD members were interviewing the bike owner the suspect happened upon them riding the stolen bike,” Sgt. Bayes explained.

“The man had stolen a bike from the same park he was arrested in days before,” Sgt. Bayes added.

Bayes said the man, again intoxicated, was arrested for breaching the conditions of his previous release and for theft of the bike.

Police ask public to be on lookout for stolen motor bike

Nelson Police is looking for public assistance in locating a motorbike stolen sometime during the weekend from Lakeside Drive near the Nelson Airport.

Sgt. Bayes said the motorcycle had been taken sometime during Friday night and Saturday morning.

“(The motorcycle) was parked there displayed “For Sale” and during the night someone either rode off on it or loaded it into a truck,” Bayes explained in a media release.

“The motorbike is a blue Suzuki dirt bike.”

No other details were released by police.

Bayes said Nelson Police Department continues to investigate.

Police, fire attend call at Nelson Carwash

Shortly after noon Monday, Nelson Police were called of a fire at the Nelson Carwash at 500 Nelson Avenue.

When police arrived the fire, starting behind one of the older machines in the laundry part of the facility, had been extinguished.

Nelson Fire Department also attended with an engine and firefighting personal.
