RCMP arrest male in Midway following marathon police chase
Grand Forks RCMP are recommending numerous charges after a male took police on a chase that ended in Midway late Tuesday night.
In a media release Wednesday, police said the eight-hour chase started at approximately 3 p.m. in Grand Forks near the Interfor mill.
Police said the complainant was able to provide a description of a suspect and vehicle the suspect was operating.
“A short time later Grand Forks RCMP members attempted to stop the vehicle on Central Avenue in Grand Forks, but the vehicle fled westbound on Highway #3 towards Greenwood,” police said.
“The vehicle was located a short time later in Greenwood by members of the Midway RCMP.”
Police said due to the risk to the public the vehicle was not pursued.
However, at approximately 6 p.m. the unoccupied vehicle was located in Midway parked at the arena with the suspect nowhere in sight.
Police said Grand Forks and Midway RCMP as well as police dog made attempts to locate the suspect for several hours.
“At 11 p.m. members of the Midway RCMP located the male suspect after receiving information on his location,” RCMP said.
“The suspect fled from Midway members on foot and was arrested without incident after he was located hiding in a shed on private property.”
The charges against the male include Flight from the Police, Obstruct/Resist Police, Drive while Prohibited, Attempted Theft of a Vehicle and Possessing Break and Enter tools. In addition, the suspect has several warrants out of Ontario.
Midway RCMP continue to assist with the investigation.
