Four people jailed after Fruitvale crime spree
Acrime spree that began yesterday in Fruitvale ended in Creston this morning, according to Trail top cop, RCMP Sgt. Darren Oelke.
“On April 3, at 12:54 p..m., the RCMP were called to a robbery at a local hotel room in Fruitvale,” Oelke said. “Police determined that a group of four individuals robbed a local man of his vehicle at gun point. Shortly after the call, police located the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it.”
He said the vehicle fled down a dead-end street and all four individuals ran from the vehicle. The firearm was recovered and a police dog quickly located two females hiding in a nearby yard.
“By the early morning reports of break-and-enters and stolen vehicles began to come in from around the community of Fruitvale. Three residences were broken into and two vehicles were stolen along with several firearms, electronics and jewelery., he said. “Two males were located back at the hotel, where one was taken into custody and the other escaped.”
At roughly 10 a.m., Creston RCMP located one of the stolen vehicles and took the outstanding male into custody without incident. Stolen property as well as the stolen firearms were located. The outstanding stolen vehicle was recovered in Fruitvale on the morning of April 4.
“Arrested are a 32- and 23-year-old female and a 44- and 34-year-old male. None of the individuals are local and appear to have recently made their way to Fruitvale from Alberta,” Oelke concluded. “Police are not looking for any other suspects.
“All four individuals have been held in custody to appear at Rossland Provincial Court on Friday, April 6.”
