Come on down to celebrate with I Heart Downtown Castlegar event this weekend

There’s never been a better time to head to downtown Castlegar than this weekend (Friday and Saturday), for the Second Annual I Heart Downtown Castlegar event.
Organizer Shawna Tarasoff said it’s a two-day event intended to showcase the variety of diverse and dynamic businesses in the downtown core.
“It’s to create some community awareness of how much is on offer down here – we all have a story, and something unique to offer the community,” Tarasoff said, adding fully 41 businesses are participating, from retailers to restaurants and beyond.
“Each business will have a draw customers can enter, plus we’ll have the Grand Prize draw of $800 in I Heart Downtown Castlegar gift certificates. To know who’s participating, just look for the red, heart-shaped balloons we’ll have at all our locations (the balloons, by the way, are reusable and not an environmental issue).”
She said it’s an all-ages-welcome event, and she hopes residents come down to shop, socialize, savour.
“It’s about creating a feeling of community – everybody just really comes together with their creativity. The Greek Oven will have heart-shaped pizzas. Mother Nature’s will be giving out 100 gift bags each day with free products – all the businesses find a way to add their own signature to the event.”
Lynn Ujvary, owner/operator of women’s clothing boutique SWISH, said she’s delighted to be a part of the campaign.
“People are waking up, and starting to realize how great downtown Castlegar is, what huge momentum is there right now,” she said. “In the fall of 2016, there were 28 vacant storefronts here. There are less than 10 vacancies now – that’s in less than two years.
“It’s exploding. I hope everyone comes down to see for themselves how vibrant and exciting our downtown has become.”
