Deadline approaching for BC SPCA'S Wildlife-In-Focus Photography Contest
From brightly coloured bluebirds to intense looks from an Arctic fox, entrants are stunning us once again with their photo submissions to the BC SPCA’s Wildlife-In-Focus Photography Contest, which is open for entries until midnight Aug. 31.
If you’re not snapping pictures, you can also participate by voting. This includes making a selection for the People’s Choice Award, where you can cast your ballot by donating to vote. Plus, the top 52 photos with the most votes will be featured on an exclusive deck of playing cards! These popular cards are limited edition and once they’re sold out, that’s it!
“We’re excited to see amazing photos from all across the province. The leaderboard is changing every day, so if you have a photo you want to see win, make sure to vote,” says BC SPCA’s specialist, research communications, Erin Ryan.
The contest supports the BC SPCA’s Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC) on Vancouver Island, where more than 2,800 orphaned and injured wild animals are cared for each year. Photos entered in previous contests have been featured in the BC SPCA’s Animal Sense and Bark! Magazines, as well as in BC SPCA educational materials, local newspapers, websites and social media – a testament to the caliber of the images that are entered.
Prizes are also awarded for the judge’s top three photos in each of two judged categories: Wild Settings and Backyard Habitats. All amateur photographers at least 14 years of age are invited to enter the competition, which runs from July 1 to Aug. 31, by submitting their most impressive digital images of B.C.’s wildlife at rest, work and play.
“B.C. has so much to offer when it comes to both wildlife and scenery,” notes Ryan. “We’re thrilled with all the beautiful photos we’ve received, and we’re also looking forward to any other entries submitted as the contest comes to a close.”
All photos of wildlife entered must be taken within B.C. and submitted digitally. “Wildlife” includes free-living birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish and insects, but not exotic, feral or domestic animals, or wildlife in zoos or rehabilitation facilities.
