Police arrest Castlegar duo with ties to recent break-ins
On April 29, Castlegar RCMP, along with its Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), was continuing its investigation into several criminal offences including a break and enter carried out on April 17, 2020 to a home in Castlegar area when officers spotted a suspect in the case. The break and enter suspect was observed travelling in a passenger vehicle along Broadwater Road in Robson. Police stopped the vehicle which contained two occupants.
A search incidental to the arrest of the female driver, yielded approximately one ounce of suspected crystal methamphetamine, a pair of brass knuckles and property investigators believed to be taken during a separate matter of an armed home invasion that occurred in Castlegar on April 9, 2020.
The 28-year-old Robson woman faces a number of potential criminal charges. She was later released from police custody to abide by strict conditions, and is expected to appear in Castlegar Court on August 26, 2020.
The male passenger was also arrested after he allegedly provided frontline officers with a false name. Once identified, police determined the 26-year-old Robson man had an unrelated warrant issued for his arrest for breach of his probation out of Trail. The man was held in custody to appear before the courts on his Trail matters. He could now face new potential charges for the obstruction and drug related offences he allegedly committed on April 29, 2020 in Castelgar.
RCMP confirm that the Jeep Cherokee taken during the April 9 armed home invasion was recovered on April 12 by Cranbrook RCMP. The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time, being led by the Castlegar RCMP.
