Two bizarre break-ins, one arrest in Trail

There are all kinds of suspects on the Kootenay crime scene, as Trail police were reminded in early April.
“On April 9, at 12:22 a.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP responded to a report that someone was actively breaking into a garage in the West Trail area,” said Const. Sherri Karn. “Trail RCMP officers quickly responded, however were advised upon arrival that suspect had fled the scene on all four feet. As it turned out the break-and-enter suspect was in fact a black bear looking for an easy meal.”
Later that same morning, police were called to another break-in.
On April 9, at 8 a.m., Trail and Greater District RCMP received a report of a man that was unlawfully in a residence in the Gulch area.
“RCMP was advised that the home owner was away for an extended period of time, however had the residence checked on regularly by a family member,” Karn explained. “On this date, when the home was checked, an unknown man was located inside the home and appeared to have been staying there for several days.
“The Trail man had even gone to the point of changing the locks on the door.”
RCMP members attended, identified and arrested the man for break and enter. He was released on an undertaking to appear in Rossland Court on May 27.
