City of Trail celebrates Trail & District Public Library’s remarkable centennial year
The City of Trail (City) recognizes the Trail & District Public Library (Library) for an outstanding year of service, innovation, and community enrichment, as highlighted in the library’s 2025 Community Report and 2026 Budget.
In 2025, the Library marked its centennial year, celebrating 100 years of supporting learning, literacy, creativity, and connection across the region. Throughout this milestone year, the Library continued to expand its reach with increased program participation, strong circulation numbers, and growing community engagement, reinforcing its role as one of Trail’s most valued public spaces.
“It’s often said that a library is the living room of a community,” said Mayor Colleen Jones. “For more than 100 years, Trail & District Public Library has been exactly that: a welcoming place where people come together to learn, share ideas and connect with one another. Council is proud to support the Library as it continues to serve our community into the future.”
The Library’s growing program portfolio reflects its commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and lifelong learning. Collaborations with community organizations strengthened seniors’ programming, supported social connection, and broadened access to health, wellness, and recreational opportunities.
The Library continues to champion cultural learning, reconciliation, and inclusive programming. Centennial celebrations brought the community together through events, art projects, and storytelling, while a variety of Indigenous-focused programs offered meaningful opportunities for cultural engagement.
The City is also celebrating the Library’s success in securing a Columbia Basin Trust READS accessibility grant, which will strengthen physical, digital, and sensory accessibility at Trail Riverfront Centre. The City, along with the Trail Museum & Archives, contributed funding to support these improvements and will continue working closely with the Library to ensure upgrades meet community needs.
The Library closed 2025 in a sound financial position and has put forward a responsible 2026 budget focused on essential technology upgrades, sustained programming, integration of upcoming accessibility improvements, and investments that support staff and core operations.
The City of Trail thanks the Library Board, staff, volunteers, and all community partners for their continued dedication, passion, and service.
