The Village of Kaslo’s edible gardens was one of the winning entries in the recent Communities in Bloom awards held last Saturday, Sept. 24 in Sooke on Vancouver Island.

The village received the Judge’s Evaluation Report and Bloom Rating Certificate, garnering five Blooms, and were presented with eye-catching street banners to promote their success.

As a nation-wide evaluation program, the CiB Bloom Rating is the “Gold Medal” promoted to citizens, visitors and business as a symbol of excellence within our province, across Canada and the world.

Fellow West Kootenay community Fruitvale also received five blooms for their sports courts.

Castlegar and the City of Trail were named as national finalists, to be announced at the Communities in Bloom National Symposium on Parks & Grounds and Awards Ceremonies in Quebec City from Oct. 26-29.
