Looking for the Powder Highway Ultimate ski bum

The search for the next Powder Highway Ultimate Ski Bum is on.
Once again the ski operators and packagers in the Kootenay Rockies region, also known as the Powder Highway in the winter, are working together and are offering the ultimate
Prize Package Giveaway, valued at over $30,000.
One sole winner will win:
- A season pass at eight ski resorts (Fairmont, Fernie, Kicking Horse, Kimberley,
- Panorama, Red, Revelstoke and Whitewater)
- Four days of heli-skiing (Canadian Mountain Holidays, Great Canadian Heli-Skiing; Purcell Helicopter Skiing and Selkirk Tangiers Heli-skiing)
- Eight days of snowcat skiing (Big Red Cats, Fernie Wilderness Adventures, Island Lake Catskiing, K3 Cat Skiing, Monashee Powder Snowcats, Selkirk Wilderness Skiing, Valhalla Powdercats and White Grizzly Catskiing)
- 90 nights of accommodation (Jan. 1, 2012 to March 31, 2012)
- Transportation and a gas card
Known for its dry, fluffy powder, or better known as ‘champagne’ powder, the Powder Highway has an average snowfall of 18 metres (60 feet).
By teaming their efforts together, the 36 sponsors are showcasing the region’s renowned ski and snowboard product to the world, creating a colossal adventure of a lifetime for one person.
The contest began Saturday and the winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 15.

Where is the Powder Highway?
It’s all of the ski/snowboard places in the southeast corner of British Columbia, in the Kootenay Rockies region — along a 1,090-kilometre driving route.
The Powder Highway area is 57,787 square kilometres, a region composed of a series of north-to-south extending valleys and mountain ranges including the Monashee, Columbia, Selkirk, Purcell and world-renowned Rocky Mountains.
These boundaries include the Alberta border with B.C. in the east, the U.S. border with Canada in the south, and extend north (past) the centres of Revelstoke and Golden and west to the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Region.
The Powder Highway is also the birth of heli-skiing, in 1965 by Hans Gmoser who founded Canadian Mountain Holidays (www.CMHSki.com).
Snowcat skiing was pioneered in 1975 by Allan and Brenda Drury, Selkirk Wilderness Skiing (www.SelkirkWilderness.com), in the small community of Meadow Creek (north of Nelson).

The number of ‘Powder Providers’ along the route include:
- 64 ski operators (to-date)
- Eight Alpine Ski Resorts
- 21 Backcountry Ski Touring Operators
- Nine Heli Ski Operators
- 10 Nordic Ski Operators
- 16 Snow-cat Ski Operators
In addition to these operators there are also three community ski hills (Salmo Ski Hill in Salmo BC, Summit Lake Ski & Snowboard Area near Nakusp BC & the Wapiti Ski Hill in Elkford BC)
