Slocan Lake RCMP are conducting an investigation into the death of a local man after his vehicle drove into the lake at the Slocan City Boat Launch.

At approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday, RCMP received a report of a vehicle driving into Slocan Lake.

Local Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance and Slocan Lake RCMP responded to the scene and found a car submerged in the late down from the boat launch.

RCMP report a tow truck was used to recover the unoccupied vehicle.

However, further search of the water found a body located under the wharf, abount six to eight feet below the surface. The wharf is beside and runs parallel to the boat launch.

The body was then recovered but unfortunately the 76-year-old local male, only occupant of the vehicle when the car went into the lake, was desceased at the scene.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The B.C. Coroner’s Service and RCMP are continuing to investigate the occurrence.
