Trail’s Logan Proulx is coming back home — well, to Castlegar to finish out his career as a member of the Selkirk College Saints Men’s
Hockey team.

The Saints received commitment from Trail Smokie to play for Selkirk beginning in the 2012/13 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

“Logan is a tremendous addition to our recruiting class for the fall,” said Saints head coach Jeff Dubois in a team press release.

“His five seasons of WHL and BCHL experience and his leadership abilities will be a real asset for what is going to be a very young and different roster. He’s a versatile guy who is effective in all three zones and on special teams. I expect he’ll adjust quickly to the college game and be an impact player and a leader for us over the next number of seasons.”

Proulx comes to Selkirk after playing last season for the BCHL’s Cowichan Valley Capitals.

On the Island Proulx enjoyed a breakout season offensively following an early season trade from the Trail Smoke Eaters, scoring 14 goals and added 11 assists in 45 games with the Capitals to help Cowichan to a third-place finish in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference.

The 21-year old began his junior career with the Edmonton Oil Kings, suiting up in 137 games over three seasons.

He scored nine times and totalled 22 points in the WHL before joining the Smoke Eaters for the 2010/11 season and appearing in 65 games for his hometown team. His BCHL totals include 18 goals and 39 points in 110 games played.

“I’m excited to be coming to Selkirk because it’s close to home and I can begin to pursue a career in a field I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” explained Proulx in the same release, describing himself as quick and gritty two-way forward who will get in the corners and battle for pucks.

“I’m looking forward to having an opportunity to continue playing hockey at a high level and I’m excited to get my education underway.”

Proulx is the 14th player to commit to the Saints for the 2012/13 season. He joins a revamped group of forwards that includes fellow BCHL vets Thomas Hardy and Jackson Garrett as well as Jordan Wood, who finished third in BCIHL scoring as a rookie last season.

Also committed to the Saints for the fall are forwards Scott Swiston (Creston, KIJHL), Connor McLaughlin (Fernie, KIJHL), Cole Thomson (Kerry Park, VIJHL), Cody Fidgett (Delta, PIJHL), John Proctor (Delta, PIJHL), Kyle Golz (Grandview, PIJHL), Matthew Luongo (Aldergrove, PIJHL) and Brodie Gibbon (Oceanside, VIJHL), as well as defenceman Brett Kipling (Melville, SJHL) and Dylan Smith (Richmond, PIJHL) and goaltender Stephen Wolff (Oceanside, VIJHL).
