There’s been another massive mudslide, this time near the Village of Fairmount Hot Springs in the East Kootenay.

At 4:38 p.m. local time, Columbia Valley RCMP received a call of a mud slide near the East Kootenay resort.

Mud and debris thundered down the mountain side closing parts of Fairmount including Highway 93/95.

“We’ve had a second incident, this time near Fairmont,” RCMP Cpl Dan Moskaluk said from a media briefing Sunday in Kaslo.

One helicopter and one ground and search crew was dispatched to assist from the Johnson Landing operation on Kootenay Lake.

The RCMP has activated a provincial multi-agency Incident Command response that is led by a unified command team.

The situation is currently being assessed.

The Regional District of East Kootenay has activated a state of emergency for the area.

There’s no report of injuries at this time.
