Federal minister at Castlegar library to announce $14,000 grant

The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, will be at the Castlegar and District Public Library at 11 a.m. Friday to announce federal funding for upgrades to the library.
This stop wraps up Yelich’s week-long B.C. visit, in which she’s announced funding for a handful of projects coming from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.
City of Castlegar planning technician Shannon Marshall applied for the Community Infrastructure Improvement grant, and he said the funding is fabulous news for the library.
“The project is $28,236, and this grant will pay for half of that,” he said, adding Columbia Basin Trust is kicking in another $6,750, leaving the city to cover only about $7,000. The upgrades will see three furnaces and one air conditioner replaced, all of which were over a quarter century old, with new, high-efficiency models.
“The furnaces are 93 per cent efficient and will result in an energy savings of 35 per cent,” he said. “Being a signatory to the B.C. Climate Action Charter in 2007, the city is committed to the goal of being carbon neutral. The replacement equipment chosen for this project is in line with that commitment.”
The funding announcement is open to the public and will take place Nov. 16 at the library, which is at1005 3 St. in Castlegar.
