Protesters in Nelson join other Idle No More rallies across Canada

The Idle No More rally once again made a stop in Nelson as approximately 30 protesters tied up traffic briefly on Baker Street to raise awareness of issues Aboriginal people face and demanding changes from the federal government.
The rally happened between noon at corner of Baker and Ward Streets in downtown Nelson.
The rally was relatively peaceful, only briefly causing traffic to be diverted by Nelson City Police officers when a protester decided to jump out into the middle of the intersection with a sign.
This is the third protest in Nelson since the movement started in December.
The Nelson protesters joined the Idle No More movement that marked a global day of action Monday, with supporters gathering in at least 30 Canadian cities and around the world.
Among the group’s issues with Conservative government Bill C-45 are that it removes protection from the majority of lakes and rivers in the country, and it fast tracks the process to surrender reserve lands.
Some of the larger rallied occurred at the Manitoba’s legislative building where more than 800 Idle No More protesters have taken to the steps.
