Get the brooms out, Rebels within a win of KIJHL title
Castlegar is one win away from its first Kootenay International Junior Hockey League title since 1996.
Jordan Gluck made 24 saves and Jamie Vlanich had two assists to power the Rebels to a 2-0 victory over the North Okanagan Knights Friday in Armstrong.
The Rebels now lead the best-of-seven KIJHL Championship series 3-0.
Castlegar can complete the sweep Saturday in Armstrong when the two Conference champions meet in Game four.
The Rebels scored the only goal the team would need with 15 seconds remaining in the opening period.
Vlanich and Travis Wellman set up Castlegar’s playoff leading scorer Stuart Walton on the power play to give the Rebels the 1-0 lead.
Brendan Heinrich provided some insurance with a second period goal.
Then it was Castlegar’s pressure defence, combined with Gluck in goal in the third, that took this game home.
The Rebels out shot the Knights 32-24 before an announced crowd of 500 fans.
It was the third straight game Castlegar has out shot the Knights.
