Last year West Kootenay BMX operated for half a season and managed to sign up 40 members and hold five races.

The goal this year is to get our club up to 100 members.

There will be a registration day on Saturday, April 27 between noon and 5 p.m. This will be a great chance to come out and see the track and find out what this program is all about.

Races will run on Saturdays with a 1-2 pm sign up starting May 4. Riders that miss the registration day, will still be able to get memberships at the track on race days.

BMX racing is a sport for all ages and abilities. There is the ‘strider’ class for kids as young as two years old riding on no-pedal balance bikes. These bikes are a better alternative to bikes with training wheels as young kids learn balance and coordination BEFORE pedaling.

There is the regular BMX class for bikes with 20” wheels, and there is the cruiser class for bikes with wheels of 24” and over (this includes mountain bikes). Age classes range from 5 and under to 61 and over so this truly is a sport the whole family can do.

In addition to our 25 regular weekly races we will be holding additional events such as The Race For Life fundraiser for cancer, a scholarship race, and a Provincial Cup race which will bring a good number of racers and families from the other tracks in BC and the US. Also, we will have a special Olympic Race on Canada Day.

BMX offers training, discipline and focus. You are part of an international Olympic sport and your membership allows you to race at any BMXCanada or USABMX track in North America.

The track is located at the Salmo Ski Hill.  For more info on registration phone Lyndon Schiewe at 250 357-2874 or contact us through our website at westkootenaybmx.com. For further info go to BMXCanada.org.
