Trail considering mediator for boundary expansion negotiations

The City of Trail announced last week it will be moving forward with the boundary extension referral process which may result in the city extending its boundaries into Electoral Area A. The process would include the City of Trail negotiating a fair agreement with the regional district services that will be impacted. The city continues to be committed to pursuing the boundary extension by following proper protocol as outlined by Provincial legislation and policy guidelines that deal specifically with boundary extensions.
“We want to reduce or eliminate any misconceptions about this proposal,” says Dieter Bogs, City of Trail Mayor. “There are very specific procedures to follow for this boundary extension process and we will not deviate from them.”
The city is also considering the assistance of a third-party mediator or facilitator to ensure there are no misunderstandings during discussions. A mediator or facilitator will also help lead positive dialogue and ensure all positions are clear and fully understood.
“Our intention is to have a fair and positive outcome for all involved in this process,” said Bogs. “We encourage a productive dialogue amongst the key stakeholders so we are certain everyone understands all of the facts and procedures. This way, we can reach an outcome that everyone can support and the province will approve.”
The City of Trail’s intention of the boundary expansion is to strengthen the Greater Trail area by attracting new investment, creating jobs and lowering costs for the area’s businesses and residents.
