Annual Hockey Swap set for Wednesday night

This Wednesday evening will provide hockey families with a fantastic opportunity to get hockey equipment at hugely slashed prices, or sell their own gear they’ve grown out of or are no longer using.
The Castlegar Minor Hockey (CMH) Association’s hockey swap has become a beloved tradition among the sports-minded in Castlegar, and organizer Leah Biln said it’s a welcome element of the annual Parade of Programs at the Complex.
“It was started by Minor Hockey as a way to help the community buy and sell equiment, and hopefully encourage kids to join hockey by making equipment affordable,” she said. “I would say you would save at the least 50 per cent off equipment – probably more.
‘It’s great for people who are new to hockey, as equipment can be quite expensive, and (CMH) has a number of kits for sale at a great price that includes the full gear you would need.”
She said she has bought hockey pants at the swap for her own son, and felt she really took home a bargain.
“I think Minor Hockey is providing a great service for the community,” she said. “Hockey has already started in Castlegar with camps and rep tryouts, and I believe ice times start next week.”
She reminded interested shoppers to check out their Facebook page at Castlegar hockey swap for updated information, and where people can feel free to upload pictures of their items so others can preview what will be available at the swap.
As for sellers, Biln said you can set your own prices and collect your money or unsold items before 9 p.m.
“Any left over items will be considered a donation to (CMH),” she said. “Items that Minor Hockey has for sale will be open to offers.”
The event is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the Kootenay Room at the Castlegar Complex.
