Bruins struggle to conquer the Dynamiters on ice
The Grand Forks Border Bruins played head to head two days in a row against the Kimberley Dynamiters with the second game held at the Grand Forks Arena, Saturday night.
The game was just like the movie … 2 Fast 2 Furious. Regardless of the great attempt to take the lead for a win, the Dynamiters took Saturday’s game with a win of 5 to 3. At Friday’s game in Kimberley the Dynamiters overtook the bruins for a 5 to 1 win.
Saturday’s first drop of the puck carried itself on with the same burst of energy right through to the end of the third period.
The first penalty was placed against the Bruins’ Tucker Brown at less then two minutes into the game. Tucker received two minutes in the box for roughing.
Dynamiters Tristan Pagura gets the puck and scores the first goal of the game at 4:55, this was Pagura’s 6th goal this season. Assists were given from team mates Darren Martin and Tyson Klingspohn.
The Bruins kept on a roll with Lincoln Lane being given the second penalty of the game — two minutes in the box for sticking.
The Dynamiters again took control of the puck, scoring the second goal of the game. It was Marco Campanella’s second goal this season. He received assistance from teammate Andrew Miller. The clock stopped at 13:23, confirming the goal.
The Bruins ended the first period with Max Newton receiving a two minute penalty in the box for the call of ‘hit to the head.’
The second period had Bruins stepping it up a notch with Connor Gross scoring the Bruins first goal at 27 seconds on the clock in the second period. This was an unassisted goal and was Gross’s 15th goal this season.
No one could say that the Bruins were not keeping it consistent for this game with Lucas Robinson getting the Bruins fourth penalty receiving two minute in the box for tripping with only 1:05 on the clock for the second period count down.
Dynamiters’ Dallin Wolf changed it up by getting Kimberley’s first penalty in the game receiving two minutes for roughing at 2:34 on the clock. Seconds later, keeping it consistent, Bruins Ravinder Shokar receives a two minute penalty for ‘boarding.’
Tempers flared on both teams and Dynamiters Jared Marchi was called for ‘high sticking’ and received a two minute penalty in the box with 7:03 minutes left in the second period.
Brady Revie connects with a pass and scores his second goal of the season, assists came from Dylan Sibbald and Tyson Klingspohn with 4:59 left on the clock. This brought the score to 3-2 for the Dynamiters.
Dynamiters Marco Campanella spent the last four minutes in the box receiving that penalty for ‘high ticking’.
Period three began with the same vigor as did one and two with the Bruins’ Max Newton scoring the second goal making this his tenth goal of the season. He had an assist from Tucker Brown at 1:52 in the third period.
Five minutes ticked off the clock while both teams failed repeatedly to score a goal. The Ref called another consistent penalty on the Bruins Coleton Dawson, two minutes for ‘tripping’.
Dynamiters kept the upper stick with Andrew Miller scoring his third goal in this season and the fourth goal of the game with no assists at 8:15 left in the third period.
Both teams energy was pouring onto the ice rallying for control of the puck when the Bruins Max Newton scores Bruins third goal — his second in this game. Assists were provided from teammates Nate Cory and Tucker Brown.
Things were becoming heated on the ice when Bruins Coleton Dawson received a two minute penalty for ‘roughing.’ Dynamiters Darren Martin also received a penalty for roughing but this one was for four minutes. Both players had to be pulled apart by the referees.
Dynamiters Dylan Sibbald scored their fifth goal with three minutes left in the third period on with no assists.
The Bruins energy was almost boiling out the top of the player’s helmets as they fought for control of the puck when Bruins’ Micheal Rand passed the pubck to Connor Gross, allowing him to score the fourth goal for the Bruins.
The horn blows, calling an end to the game, giving the Dynaminters a second win over the Bruins in as many days with a final score of 5-3.
“Our guys fought for a win tonight,” said assistant coach Matt Zamec. “It really showed as they stepped it up having to cover for seven of our regular players that are out due to injuries.”
He continued: “I’m counting the small successes, and tonight with half a team injured and not able to play, these guys worked the ice tonight, and were so close.”
