The worst kept secret is now official as the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2014 was announced Thursday.

And on the list is Nelson Minor Hockey grad Pat Price.

“This is absolutely fantastic,” Price said moments after leaving the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame press conference at Rogers Arena in Nelson.

“It’s always something you aspire to be recognized and to be selected to a Hall of Fame you can’t ask for anything more than that.”

“My dad always told me it’s not what you take but what you leave behind quite frankly,” Price added.

Price a former defenceman in both the NHL and WHA, is joined by Vancouver Canuck great Kirk McLean and hockey executive Bill Ennos, a former UBC Thunderbird and Vancouver Nat junior.

The 2003-04 Memorial Cup champion Kelowna Rockets, led by Shea Weber, were named to the Hall in the team category.

Price, drafted first overall in 1974 by Vancouver Blazers of the World Hockey Association and 11th overall in the 1975 NHL draft by New York Islanders, played 726 total NHL games, scoring 43 goals and 218 assists before retiring in 1988.

He is the fourth person from the Nelson area to be selected to the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame, joining ex-NHLers Danny Gare and Greg Adams as well former hockey coach Ernie Gare Sr.

The induction ceremonies will take place July 25 in Penticton.
