Alcohol related incidents keep NPD busy Family Day weekend

Nelson City Police were busy during the Family Day Holiday weekend dealing with a few alcohol related incidents, which led a some intoxicated people spending time in cells.

During the early Sunday morning hours with pubs winding down operations, dispatch received a call of several drunk patrons harassing a doorman at a local drinking establishment.

The call came in at 12:25 a.m. after the doorman determined the men were too intoxicated to enter.

When Nelson Police attended, all but one man — a 32-year-old Nelson student — had evaded the pub entrance.

Police detained the man for public intoxication. During conversation, police noticed stolen shoes sticking out of the man’s pockets.

During the arrest for the stolen property, police seized a quantity of street drugs. 

The man was lodged into cells until sober and will appear in court (Tuesday) April 29 to answer to charges of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication. 

Party host ticketed for liquor violations

Saturday (February 8) at 2:45 a.m. NPD dispatch received a call for excessive noise 600 Block Baker Street location.

When police arrived they discovered several violations of the liquor permit issued for the event. 

The 40-year-old party host was sanctioned under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act for failing to clear patron out in time and allowing patrons to consume after the event closed.

House party gets out of control

Early Saturday morning (1:45 a.m., February 8) Nelson Police were called to the Uphill area to assist with a small house party that had gotten out of control.

Police were told a guest had consumed too much liquor and became combative after being thrown out of the party.

When police arrived he was taken into custody and lodged into cells.

During the search, a quantity of marijuana was found in the man’s pockets.

Police also realized the man was bound by numerous conditions from another jurisdiction.

Those conditions included no liquor consumption and curfew.

After spending time in police lockup the young man was released and will appear in Nelson courts to answer to charges of possession of a controlled substance, mischief to property, and breaching release conditions.
