Police foot chase leads to arrest of two 14-year-old B & E suspects

A report to police from an alert neighbour led to the arrest of two 14-year-olds following a break in into a residence in Uphill Sunday (March 16) night.
Nelson Police dispatch received a call at 11:30 p.m. Saturday of an “in progress” break in to the Uphill residence.
The report came after a nearby resident observed the suspects enter the residence through a window.
The owners of the residence were not home at the time of the incident.
When officers arrived at the scene they saw the two males with flashlights going through the contents of the residence.
At one point police noticed one of the boys wielding an axe.
NPD members forcibly gained access to the residence and attempted to place the male suspects under arrest at gunpoint.
The two males refused to comply and fled the house through a bedroom window, onto the roof and into a wooded area near the house above the house.
Members pursued the suspects on foot, shortly after arresting one of the boys, a 14-year-old Nelson resident near the scene.
A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the second male, also a 14-year-old Nelson resident.
Both youth boys were charged and are scheduled to appear in Nelson Court in May.
During the arrest it was revealed that both youth were under the influence of alcohol and drugs during the commission of these offences.
A quantity of Cannabis was seized from one of the arrested males.
All property from the residence was retrieved and there was minimal damage to the residence from NPD forcible entry.
Police on lookout for stolen Ford Escape
Sunday (March 16) a Nelson resident contacted NPD to report his vehicle had been stolen sometime overnight in the downtown area.
The vehicle is described as a grey 2002 Ford Escape bearing British Columbia license plate 193-TWF.
The vehicle has not yet been recovered.
Currently there are no suspects or witnesses in relation to this incident.
Wrong driveway . . . yard leads to 24-hour suspension
Nelson Police was called to a report early Saturday (March 15) morning of a motor vehicle accident in Uphill.
The call came in at 4 a.m. from a Nelson resident of a car that had gone off road into his yard, narrowly missed striking his residence.
A male driver was observed departing the scene after unsuccessful attempts to free the vehicle from a snow bank.
NPD members arrived on scene to find the vehicle abandoned.
During the investigation it was revealed the driver lived in a nearby residence.
The 25-year-old Nelson resident was found under the influence of alcohol and admitted to the incident.
The male was issued a 24-hour suspension and a violation ticket for Failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
His vehicle was also impounded for 24 hours.
Young girl gets off lucky after allegedly assaulting bouncer
An 18-year-old female escaped the long arm of the law after slapping a staff member during an incident late Saturday (March 15) night at a downtown licensed establishment.
The young female was attempting to use fake identification to get into the licensed establishment when the staff member refused her entry.
The female became enraged and allegedly slapped the staff member in the face before fleeing the area.
After patrolling the area, NPD officers were able to locate the female in a parked vehicle nearby.
The young girl was arrested for Assault and being intoxicated in a public place.
She was later released without charge as the staff member did not wish to proceed further.
