Woman arrested for causing disturbance on Baker Street/NPD continues investigation of pepper spray robbery

A female is scheduled to appear in Court after causing a disturbance Saturday (May 24) afternoon on Baker Street.

The incident occurred after Nelson Police attended a call at approximately 5 p.m. of a many drinking in the 400 Block of Baker Street.

When officers arrived the 40-year-old man, known to them, was charged under the Liquor Control of Licensing Act for consuming liquor in public. 

During the issuing of the ticket, the female companion felt the matter was not settled and became belligerent to members.

She caused such a scene with her behavior that it drew the attention of nearby pedestrians and amenity area users. 

Despite being warned to calm down and contain her language she continued and was arrested for causing a disturbance. 

The woman will appear in Nelson Law Court in August to answer to the charge.

Until the court date, the woman is forbidden to be in that area of Baker Street as a condition of her release.
 
Man arrested for outstanding charge in another jurisdiction

Saturday (May 24) evening at approximately 8:30 p.m., Nelson Police Department were conducting regular patrols of Cottonwood Falls Park when they discovered a male acting strangely.

While investigating the reasons for the behavior and confirming his identity it was discovered that he was wanted for a theft in another jurisdiction in BC.

The man was arrested and lodged into cells until a new court date to answer to the charges was confirmed.

Police still looking for clues in pepper spray robbery of Star Grocery

Nelson Police continue to investigate the robbery of the Star Grocery in Rosemont Friday night.

Store owners were robbed at approximately 9 p.m. when two people, a man and woman were dressed in black with their faces and hair were covered, walked into the store, pepper sprayed the owner who was behind the counter the face.

It is believed the woman took approximately $300 to $400 out of the cash register while the man grabbed around 50 to 60 packs of cigarettes from the shelves.

The female suspect is described to be 5’6” and her 30s. The man was a bit taller at approximately 5’9”.

The Nelson Police dispatch several calls and officers arrived on the scene in minutes.

Nelson Police said the investigation is ongoing.
