Pedestrian escapes injury after nearly being hit by Sunday morning impaired driver
Nelson Police reported a pedestrian escaped injury after nearly being hit by an impaired driver Sunday morning in the Heritage City.
NPD dispatch was alerted when a vehicle and pedestrian avoided a collision with another motorist at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday.
Fearing the driver involved in the near miss may have been impaired, the motorist called the Nelson Police to report the incident.
NPD members located the suspect vehicle near Lakeside Park,
The 20-year-old female was found to have been drinking.
After failing a roadside screening, the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Ward & Baker bus stop continues to generate calls to NPD
Nelson Police arrested two males for drinking at the Ward Street Bus stop Sunday afternoon.
Officers on a routine patrol of the downtown core made the arrest.
Police noted two males sharing a beer at the Ward Street bus stop.
The two, under orders to refrain from alcohol due to other criminal matters, were taken into custody and lodged into cells until sober.
The men will appear in Nelson Law Courts to answer to fresh charges of breaching release conditions Monday (June 2).
Older male to make court appearance for breach of probation
Friday (May 30) police received a call at 11 a.m. of a disturbance at the Ward Street bus stop.
When constables arrived they found two males, know to the Nelson Police, under the influence and still consuming liquor.
Both males were arrested for public intoxication and transported to cells until sober.
One male was found to be in breach of his probation conditions and was subsequently charged under the Criminal Code for that offence.
The man is no longer be allowed in the area as a condition of his release until his court date.
The 59-year-old local male will be required to appear in the Nelson Law Courts to answer to his charges.
The second male was charged under the LCLA and released when sober.
