The Trail Crime Reduction Unit is determined to prove the Mounties always get their man – or men, as the case may be.

RCMP Cpl. Darryl Orr is the non-commissioned officer in charge of both Trail and Castlegar CRUs, and he said his unit recently arrested two local offenders, one of whom police believe robbed the Spot Restaurant in Trail.

“On July 4, members of the Trail Crime Reduction Unit arrested Sheldon Matteucci, 34, for two outstanding warrants of arrest for failing to comply with probation and breach of undertaking,” Orr explained. “Matteucci was actively evading the police and was found hiding inside a West
Trail residence at the time of his arrest.

One week later, police nabbed alleged Bad Guy #2.

“On July 10, members of the Trail Crime Reduction Unit and Kootenay Boundary Regional General Investigation Section arrested a 25-year-old male who is suspected of committing the robbery at the Spot Restaurant in Trail which occurred on July 6, 2014. A charge of robbery will be recommended against this male.”

Credit doesn’t just go to human cops, though, as Orr confirmed the assistance of the canine contingent.

“The Regional Police Service Dog was utilized in the arrest of both offenders.”

Meanwhile, the Trail Crime Reduction Unit continues their attempts to locate and arrest David Grant Mack, 37.

“Mack has outstanding warrants of arrest for assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and fail to comply with probation,” Orr said. “It is believed Mack has returned to the Trail area and police are requesting anyone with any information regarding his whereabouts contact the RCMP or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

“A photo of David Grant Mack is attached for reference.”
