Two men facing charges for climbing to top of BOB (Big Orange Bridge)

Two men, one from Nelson and the other from New Zealand, are facing possible charges after climbing to the top of the Big Orange Bridge early Sunday (February 8) morning.
The ordeal started at approximately 2:30 a.m. when a pedestrian alerted police, conducting patrols in the area, those two males that had climbed to the top of the bridge structure.
Members located the men, a 26-year-old Nelson resident and a 22-year-old New Zealand man, perched atop the bridge structure and advised them that Nelson Fire Department would be attending the scene to extract them from the bridge safely.
However, before firefighters arrived, the men both under the influence of alcohol, disregarded police direction and climbed down the structure.
Both males were arrested upon arriving on the bridge deck.
The Nelson man was arrested for being Intoxicated in a Public Place while the New Zealander, was released without charge under the Liquor Act.
Both males face a possible charge of Mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada and/or a charge under the Trespass Act.
60-year-old woman, driving erraticly, refuses breathalyser
Friday (February 6) at 12:25 a.m., police members were alerted to a vehicle driving in erratic fashion in the downtown core area.
The female driver, identified as a 60-year-old resident of Nelson, displayed symptoms of impairment by alcohol and became uncooperative and resistant during detention for Impaired Driving.
The woman, however, refused to provide a breath demand as directed and was therefore arrested for Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample, Impaired Driving, Obstruct Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
A Nelson Court appearance is scheduled for May 19 in relation to these charges.
