Nelson Police arrest man for attempted robbery of 7-Eleven store
There was another attempted armed robbery in Nelson.
However, this time the masked man did not get away.
Nelson Police arrested and charged a man with Attempted Robbery following an incident early Wednesday morning at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 123 Anderson Street next to the Safeway grocery store.
Nelson dispatch took the call at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday (May 6) that a male had entered the store with his face covered demanding cash from the register.
Staff said the man had something concealed under his jacket.
Officers responded and located a male matching the clothing description within a block of the store.
The male ran and was eventually located on the roof of a building in the 300 block of Hall Street.
The man ran after coming down from the building, but was quickly taken into custody by police.
The 25-year-old man has been charged with Attempted Robbery, Disguise with Intent and Breach of a Recognizance from an unrelated matter.
In April of 2014, Nelson Police dealt with two robberies of the Nelson and District Credit Union and Kootenay Currency Exchange.
Andrew Zacharias Stevenson, 34, plead guilty in April of this year to eight counts of criminal offenses, Nelson Provincial Court.
The charges included robbery using a restricted prohibited firearm, unlawful use of a firearm, using an imitation firearm and breaking and entering.
Hydro scam still making the rounds in Nelson
Nelson police report that on Thursday (May 7) officers received a call from two local businesses relating to a hydro scam.
The business owners said they received a telephone call from a person claiming to be employed by a local hydro company.
The person stated that the business’ power was going to be disconnected immediately due to overdue accounts.
Nelson Police want to take this opportunity to warn residents and businesses of scams and not provide any personal or account information.
In addition, to check the validity of the request by hanging up and calling the local hydro company mentioned to ensure there is some credence to the call.
