Classic Car Club of America tour wows local car buffs
Car buffs were taken back to the 1930’s and 40’s Thursday at the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort as the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) made a pitstop in the Heritage City.
Some 60 drivers were participating in the CCCA Pacific Northwest Carvan and Nelson was the second stop on the tour that began Wednesday in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.
“Some of us know others from other tours but a lot of us just join the tour to meet other owners,” an owner told The Nelson Daily Thursday.
And you don’t mind putting miles on your cars?
“That’s the whole thing about being part of the tour.”
The CCCA is an organization founded in 1952 to celebrate the grand automobiles of the prewar period.
At the time, the vehicles covered by the Club were considered too modern to be of any interest by such organizations as the Antique Automobile Club of American and despite their often stupendous cost when new, were considered practically worthless.
The vehicles eligible for CCCA membership are now some of the most highly valued cars in existence.
The tour left Coeur d’ Alene Thursday, travelling Highway 3A along Kootenay Lake to the ferry before stopping over in Nelson.
Drivers left Nelson Thursday, taking Highway 6 to Halcyon Hot Springs and onto Revelstoke before its final destination in Banff Sunday.
Participants, who drove Super Eight Packarts, Bugatti, Stutz and Studebaker, came from Florida, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Ohio, Colorado and Maryland.
