British Columbia Float Plane Association hosts AGM in Nelson this weekend
The skies over Nelson will be filled this weekend with planes participating in the annual British Columbia Float Plane Association (BCFA) fly-in and annual general meeting.
Plane will be begin to arrive Friday for the three-day event.
Approximately 30 float planes with their pilots and passengers are expected to attend.
“They have chosen Nelson for its convenient airport, water landing and mooring, and of course because of all the things that Nelson has to offer visitors,” said Bob Schmitz of the Nelson Pilots Association.
Schmitz said most planes will land in the water just off the airport and will moor along the shore by the dog walk.
“It might be noisy,” he said. “There will be no closures or restrictions other than to ask the public to not interfere with or touch the airplanes.”
The BCFA will be holding their meetings at the airport on the Saturday.
On Sunday, July 19 the Nelson Pilots Association will be holding a pancake breakfast, open to the general public, from 8-11 a.m.
This will be an opportunity for the public to visit the airport, see airplanes and talk with pilots.
It is expected that airplane rides will be available for a reasonable price.
