A Rossland resident and business owner is pairing up with the KBRH Health Foundation to serve butter chicken for charity at this year’s Rekindle the Spirit of Christmas event on December 5th.

Avtar Powar, owner of Casa Alpina in Rossland, will be donating 500 servings of butter chicken to hungry festival goers in the name of charity, with the help of the KBRH Health Foundation’s Board of Directors.

“His wife recently suffered a stroke. She received excellent card while at KBRH and he would like to raise awareness for our local regional hospital, KBRH, and support current and future stroke patients through this fundraising effort” said Lisa Pasin, Director of Development at the KBRH Health Foundation.

Avtar will cook up 500 servings of his famous butter chicken on rice, then serve customers, with the help of foundation volunteers, outside the NDCU on Columbia Avenue. They will start serving at 10:00am, and continue until the food runs out.

Recommended donation per plate is $10 minimum, and the funds will be used to support healthcare equipment needs, staff education and special initiatives to enhance health care of Kootenay Boundary residents.

Other fundraising initiatives will be taking place throughout the day, like the Youth Action Network (YAN) who will be gift wrapping for charity. The Me To We Rossland group will be using the YAN’s prime location at 2076 Columbia Avenue to raise funds for the West Kootenay Friends of Refugees. Bring all your Christmas purchases to have them giftwrapped for you by YAN youth volunteers for a donation to this great cause.

Rekindle the Spirit of Christmas takes place on Saturday, December 5th in downtown Rossland. Events kick off at 10:00am, a full schedule of events will be released shortly.
