Snowfall warning prompts YRB to urge careful driving of mountain highways

People driving the mountain highways in the Kootenays should be aware of snowfall warning Monday night said Marc Dale of Yellowhead Road & Bridge Ltd.
Dale said temperatures will drop throughout the night and the region will experience strong winds and blowing snow.
“Accumulations in the valley will range from 4 -10 cm of snow overnight changing to rain mid-morning Tuesday,” Dale said in a media release.
“We will have accumulations of 20 – 30 cm of snow on Kootenay Pass over night with another 10 – 15 cm over Kootenay Pass tomorrow.
Dale said snow will continue to mid-morning Tuesday and as temperatures rise, snow will switch to rain in the valley’s and stay as wet snow at higher elevations.
“Expect winter driving conditions tomorrow for your morning commute and please plan ahead by checking Drive BC if you must travel over Kootenay Pass,” he said.
Dale said YRB has all resources patrolling through the night and please drive with caution, there will be rapidly changing driving conditions over the next 24 hours of rain, snow, sleet and fog due to temperature changes.
“Allow yourself extra time for your travels tonight and tomorrow and “Know before you go” by checking Drive BC.
Environment Canada weather report for Tuesday is calling for snow mixed with rain changing to rain in the morning with accumulations to the 10 cm amount.
The snow level will rise to 2000 metres late in the afternoon with a temparature high of 8C.
