Coordinated search by local emergency services locates missing man Sunday
A scary situation concluded with a happy ending after a coordinated search by local emergency services located a missing man near the Taghum Bridge 10 kilometers west of Nelson Sunday morning.
Nelson Police Constable Brian Weber told The Nelson Daily, the incident started at approximately 8 a.m. when a call came into NPD dispatch.
“The call came in from a female concerned about the mental well-being of a good friend,” Weber explained.
“We made all efforts to locate this person under the Mental Health Act and were able to find him at about 11:45 a.m. near the Taghum Bridge.”
Weber said the caller thought the man was in the vicinity of Railtown, in the west part of Nelson.
Nelson Police, who had a good rapport with the man, headed the search, with assistance from RCMP members, RCMP and NPD marine divisions and RCMP service dog, Nelson Fire Rescue and Emergency Health Services.
“The search moved from the city limits into RCMP jurisdiction towards Taghum where the male was apprehended without incident in good condition,” Weber said.
Weber said no one was hurt during the search.
NPD officers transported the male Kootenay Lake Hospital for assessment by a physician.
