Konkin, Drolet , Erickson capture medals on opening day of West Kootenay Cross Country season

Jackson Konkin of J. Lloyd Crowe in Trail and Salmo’s Jasmine Drolet came out on top of the first race of the West Kootenay Cross Country season Tuesday at L.V. Rogers in Nelson.
Konkin finnished the 7.8 kilometer course in a time of 32 minutes, five seconds to capture the Senior Boys category.
Second was Keiran Marchand of LVR while Jasper Mair of Mount Sentinel was third.
Daniel Stewart, Sammuel Cristofanetti and Jesse Drew, all of Mount Sentinel, rounded out the top five.
Drolet won the Junior Girls Division ahead of Avie Waterfall of Trafalgar.
Sophie Edney and Mikyla Bergman of LVR were third and fourth.
Zoe Taylor of Wildflower in Nelson was fifth.
Matti Erickson won the Junior Boy’s race ahead of Trafalgar teammate Emerald Lockhart.
Hunter Denamy of Grand Forks was third followed by Brett Carr of Kaslo and Devon Duerichen of New Denver.
Evan Taylor won the Grade 7 race while A. J. Barrett of Trafalgar won the Elementary event.
The West Kootenay Cross Country circuit shifts to New Denver of the next race.
