Just in time for the coming ski season, the Castlegar Nordic Ski Club has completed the installation of two new ski trail bridges at the Paulson Ski Trails, located along highway 3 near the Paulson summit, 32 km. west of Castlegar.  The new bridges replace old log structures crossing Big Sheep Creek on the club’s Short-Loop and Mid-Loop trails.  Both bridges, which were designed by SNT Engineering Ltd. of Nelson, have 3 metre wide timber decks with steel superstructures and are 11 metres in length.

Installation of the lock-block abutments and superstructures was completed by Custom Dozing Ltd. of Salmo in late September, followed by installation of decking, curbs and railings by Castlegar Nordic Ski Club members and volunteers from several local communities.

The club, which has approximately 800 members in the West Kootenay/Boundary area and maintains 45 km. of ski trails, is very grateful for the local support for this priority project.  Funding assistance was provided by Columbia Basin Trust, the Regional Districts of Kootenay Boundary and Central Kootenay and from Recreation Sites and Trails BC, with additional support from Mitchell Supply Ltd. in Castlegar.

Completion of these two bridges is the second phase of a multi-year infrastructure upgrade program the club has been undertaking, which also includes improvements to parking and upgrades to trails and other amenities.  For information about the Castlegar Nordic Ski Club visit www.castlegarnordic.ca.
